All students, including current freshmen, are encouraged to complete the survey if at all interested in living in the new housing complex. According to enrollment records over the past five years only 4.6% of RPS residents are considered seniors and juniors in academic standing. Therefore, consistent with historic records, current freshmen who will be sophomores next year, may obtain a unit in New Housing 2010.
To be eligible for assignment in the new complex, students must complete the Interest Survey, which will be available November 2, through November 15. Submitting the survey does not commit students to living in the new complex or on-campus. Current RPS residents may also complete a contract to obtain on-campus housing without commitment, as the contract can be cancelled before June 1, 2009, without penalty.
Upperclassmen with a higher Housing Priority Date (HPD) who obtain housing in the new complex may request underclassmen as roommates. All roommates must complete the survey and request each other to be eligible to be assigned an apartment in the complex.
To keep all housing options open for next year students who are considering living in New Housing 2010 should complete the survey. Subscribe to this blog to keep updated as more specific information will be released as it is decided.

Students interested in obtaining space in the new complex must complete the Interest Survey, which will be available on the RPS Web site November 2-15. All roommates must complete the survey and request an assignment in New Housing 2010 to be eligible for housing in the complex.
Once the survey is completed assignment priority will be determined based on academic class standing, RPS resident status, and Housing Priority Date (HPD). HPD is the date a resident initially applied for housing.
Assignments for students who complete the survey and request space in New Housing 2010 will be made in the following order based on their HPD:
- current junior and sophomore RPS residents (2010-11 juniors, seniors, and graduate students)
- current juniors and sophomores living off campus (2010-11 juniors and seniors)
- current freshmen RPS residents (2010-11 sophomores)
- current freshmen living off campus (2010-11 sophomores)
An official name has not been determined for the complex, so it will be referred to as New Housing 2010 for assignment purposes during this time.
Cost for the units is in the approval process. Students will be aware of the price before the deadline to cancel contracts without penalty.
Look for the Interest Survey link at www.rps.indiana.edu, on RPS Digital Signage, and in upcoming blog entrees on November 2.

As the first of the seven buildings started, Building A is the most complete structure in the construction project. It is shown with yellow insulation on the external walls. Limestone will soon cover the exposed area. The roof deck can also be seen before the roof is in place. The third floor deck and uncovered insulation on the exterior walls of Building B are shown in the top left corner. The start of a stair tower for Building C is visible in the lower right corner.

The progress of Building B trails slightly behind Building A. The fourth floor slab is visible from the aerial view, with two stair towers protruding on each end. The elevator tower also extends beyond the slab in the front of the building. Exterior walls of the fourth floor to the roof deck are seen being erected.

In the beginning stages of construction are Buildings C, D, and E. Building D is the most complete of the grouping with the first floor framing shown as it is completed. The stair towers of Building C are in progress. The ground floor slab and partial elevator and stair towers of Building E can be seen behind Building D.

A lone tree stands surrounded by a peaceful patch of grass and a fury of labor, as its new home is built around it. The tree, which is protected by a fence, will continue to grow between Buildings A and B and will face the lawn and plaza of Building C when the complex is completed.
As highlighted in a Site Plan A , the tree is one of many existing trees that will remain a part of the landscape surrounding the new complex. Fencing to protect existing trees is represented by orange circles. Trees and landscaping to be added is shown in white. Site Plan B illustrates the grounds once all landscaping is complete.
To the tree’s north, walls and floors are constructed in Building A. To its south, metal studs are set and elevator and stair walls are built in Building B; footings are poured in Building D. To its east, footings are poured for Building.
Once complete, the complex will have an abundance of shade trees for residents to read a book under.
